Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) has traditionally been the standard for the communication and management of medical imaging information and related data. DICOM is most commonly used for storing and transmitting medical images enabling the integration of medical imaging devices such as scanners, servers, workstations, printers, network hardware, and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) from multiple manufacturers. Today DICOM has gone beyond just images and is used for waveform data like ECGs, Audio, Video and PDF files.
The DICOM Standard consists of 21 parts, each running into hundreds pages and are managed by the Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance - a division of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, USA. The standard is constantly evolving to incorporate the new needs of stakeholders and is updated several times a year. The latest version is freely available for download from the official DICOM Standard website
The DICOM Education Conference is a series of talks and presentations on 9th, 10th & 11th October overseen by the people behind the standard along with local partners to spread knowledge of the standard. It starts with the basics, introducing the concepts of DICOM and goes on to cover important aspects of the standard. Recent additions to the standard such as DICOMweb™ are also covered.
Address: Kanagam, Tharamani, Chennai, Tamil Nadu - 600113
The DICOM Education Conference is a great starting point for beginners to learn about Medical Imaging Informatics and also serves as a refresher for those more experienced. If you are a developer, end user or vendor, this is where you should be. This conference is being held in India for the second time and after 10 years. This conference is also an opportunity to interact with your peers and gain from their experience.
… and much more! Keep checking for updates.
The Banquet Dinner on the 9th evening is an opportunity to kickback and relax with some light entertainment and network in a relaxed atmosphere. Learn how it all began from the talk on DICOM History from people who were there. Seating is limited and is alloted on a first come first serve basis.
The Interoperability & DICOM WEB Hackathon on October 11th is a parallel track to see how your product adheres to the DICOM standard. If you have a product that needs to talk to others using the DICOM protocol it is an invaluable opportunity to check its interoperability in a neutral environment. Connectivity issues can be hacked together during the programme.
A certificate of attendence will be emailed as a PDF to all attendees. However attending the conference or the Interoperability Hackathon does not imply any endorsement or validation of personnel, products or company by the DICOM Standards Committee or the Organisers.
